What’s It Like To Work Here

This is a pivotal moment for the West Midlands and for the organisation delivering its economic growth.

You will join a newly reshaped, region-wide team bringing together investment, business growth, high-growth cluster support, the visitor economy and regional promotion into one coordinated system. The work spans strategic planning and hands-on delivery, with clear objectives and measurable outcomes.

We operate at pace and with a strong commercial focus, within a public sector framework. Collaboration across teams is essential, and accountability for delivery is part of how we work.

Most roles are based in Birmingham, at the centre of the West Midlands’ commercial activity. Some Business Growth roles will be based in Coventry, reflecting our regional footprint and partnership model.

We offer a hybrid working model, with collaboration in-person where it adds value.

This is an environment for professionals who are motivated by impact, who value clarity and responsibility, and who want their work to contribute directly to the future of the West Midlands economy.

Diversity, Inclusion & Equal Opportunities

The West Midlands is one of the UK’s most diverse regions. We aim to reflect that diversity in our workforce.

We are committed to equal opportunities and oppose all forms of unlawful or unfair discrimination. We actively encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds and experiences.

We believe diverse perspectives strengthen decision-making, improve performance and better represent the communities and businesses we serve.

Governance & Accountability

West Midlands Growth Company operates within a clear governance framework.

As the region’s Economic Development Vehicle, we are directly accountable to the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) Board. A business-led board oversees our operations and performance.

We report on measurable outcomes, align activity to regional economic priorities outlined in the West Midlands Growth Plan, and maintain transparent oversight.

Clarity of responsibility and performance is central to the new EDV model.

Location & Region

The West Midlands is one of the UK’s most dynamic economic regions.

Home to globally recognised manufacturers, innovative SMEs, leading universities and major cultural institutions, the region combines industrial heritage with modern growth sectors including advanced manufacturing, digital, life sciences and clean energy.

With strong transport connectivity, a diverse population and a growing international profile, the West Midlands offers both professional opportunity and quality of life.

Working here means contributing directly to the future of one of the UK’s most important economic regions.
