Job Description

Ready for Your Next Big Career Move?

We’re looking for a motivated and commercially minded Strategic Account Management (SAM) Support Executive to join the newly launched WM Growth Hub at the West Midlands Growth Company. If you thrive on building relationships, supporting businesses to grow, and want to play a hands‑on role in shaping the region’s economic future, this could be the perfect next step for you.

Who Are We?

The West Midlands Growth Company (WMGC) is the region’s dedicated economic development delivery organisation.

From April 2026, WMGC will lead regionally commissioned economic development activity aligned to the West Midlands Growth Plan, working in partnership with the West Midlands Combined Authority, local authorities, universities and the private sector.

We attract investment, support high‑growth organisations, and help create better jobs and opportunities across the region. Our work delivers real, visible impact — strengthening businesses, boosting productivity, and improving quality of life across the West Midlands.

If you want your work to directly support regional growth and prosperity, this is your opportunity.

The Role

As a Strategic Account Management (SAM) Support Executive, you’ll work at the heart of the region’s economic growth agenda. You’ll support our Strategic Account Management Team as they manage relationships with around 250 of the West Midlands’ most important public and private‑sector organisations.

Working closely with SAM Leads, Research Coordinators, Chief Executives and Directors, you’ll help ensure relationships are proactively managed, information flows effectively, and agreed actions are followed through. This is a highly collaborative role offering exposure to senior stakeholders and a unique insight into regional economic development.

You’ll Be Involved In:

• Supporting Strategic Business Relationships

Help the SAM Team build, maintain and coordinate relationships with key regional organisations that drive innovation, productivity and high‑value job creation.

• Enabling Joined‑Up Regional Working

Work across WMGC, the West Midlands Combined Authority and seven Local Authorities to ensure insights, risks and opportunities are shared and acted upon.

• Strengthening Business Growth and Investment Outcomes

Support the delivery of initiatives aligned to the West Midlands Growth Plan — including access to innovation, skills, employment support, planning, investment and policy makers.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Supporting the SAM Team in the day‑to‑day management of a large and complex portfolio of strategic accounts.

• Helping to develop, maintain, and review strategic account plans aligned to regional priorities.

• Acting as a central point of contact for information flow, coordination and follow‑up actions.

• Assisting with background research, stakeholder mapping, engagement tracking and company briefings.

• Liaising with internal teams and partner organisations to ensure a joined‑up approach to business support.

• Capturing insights and sharing intelligence with colleagues across WMGC and policy teams.

• Supporting delivery standards, priorities and reporting across the SAM function.

What You’ll Bring

Essential:

• Experience supporting businesses in a business support, account management or relationship‑based role.

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and high volumes of work.

• Excellent communication skills — written, verbal and interpersonal.

• Confidence building and maintaining professional relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret research and translate it into action.

• High level of IT literacy, including Microsoft Office and CRM systems.

• A collaborative, proactive mindset with confidence to work independently when required.

• A genuine commitment to inclusive, sustainable economic growth.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of regional economic development or local authority environments.

• Experience delivering business support to high‑growth or scale‑up organisations.

• Experience working within SMEs or alongside senior business leaders.

• Involvement in process improvement or CRM implementation.

• A relevant degree or business qualification.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

  • 26 days holiday
  • Company pension scheme including life assurance
  • Hybrid working with 2 days in the office
  • Cycle to work
  • Simple Health employee membership scheme
