Who Are We?
The West Midlands Growth Company (WMGC) is the region’s economic development delivery organisation.
From April 2026, we will lead the delivery of regionally commissioned economic development activity aligned to the West Midlands Growth Plan, working in partnership with the West Midlands Combined Authority and local authorities.
We are building a sharper, business-focused organisation that attracts investment, supports high-growth companies and drives measurable economic impact.

The Role
As a SAM Lead, you will manage a portfolio of around 50 major strategic organisations, acting as their senior relationship point and ensuring they receive coordinated, high value support from WMGC, the Combined Authority, and seven Local Authorities.
You’ll help unlock investment, reduce barriers to growth, and strengthen each organisation’s economic contribution across the West Midlands.
What You'll Be Doing
- Act as the named relationship lead for 50 strategic regional organisations.
- Build trusted relationships with CEOs and senior executives.
- Develop structured, proactive account plans aligned to regional priorities.
- Coordinate engagement across WMGC, WMCA, and local authorities.
- Identify risks, opportunities, and strategic gaps, escalating where necessary.
- Manage up to 3 SAM Coordinators and a SAM Executive.
- Oversee research, stakeholder mapping, engagement tracking, and company briefings.
- Represent WMGC professionally with high level stakeholders
- Ensure accurate, timely CRM and engagement reporting.
What You’ll Bring
Essential
- Senior corporate background with experience working at C-Suite level.
- Proven relationship building skills with complex public and private organisations.
- Ability to operate commercially and politically within multi‑layered environments.
- Experience managing strategic accounts or professional services portfolios.
- Leadership capability with experience directing small teams.
Desirable
- Experience in economic development or public sector partnership working.
- Knowledge of key regional high growth sectors.
- Experience implementing CRM or account management frameworks.
