Job Description

Ready for Your Next Big Career Move?

We’re looking for an ambitious Commercial Partnerships Development Manager to join the West Midlands Growth Company and make a real impact from day one. If you’re driven, curious, and motivated by turning insight into action, this could be your perfect next step.

 Who are we?

The West Midlands Growth Company (WMGC) is the region’s economic development delivery organisation. From April 2026, we will lead the delivery of regionally commissioned economic development activity aligned to the West Midlands Growth Plan, working in partnership with the West Midlands Combined Authority and local authorities.

We are building a sharper, business-focused organisation that attracts investment, supports high‑growth companies and drives measurable economic impact. If you want your work to shape how growth is delivered across one of the UK’s most important regions, this is your opportunity.

The Role:

As our new Commercial Partnerships Development Manager, you are an experienced insights and partnerships professional who thrives in a complex, multi‑stakeholder environment. You’re confident interpreting data, engaging with senior leaders, and translating intelligence into meaningful, actionable insight. You understand how public, private and academic organisations connect—and you’re motivated by helping them work together more effectively.

In this role, you'll lead the Partnership Insight strand of WMGC’s new Commercial Partnerships Strategy. You will act as the central link between our corporate partners and the wider regional economic development system, which includes WMGC, WMCA, local authorities and universities. You will gather, interpret and share regional and national insight, ensuring partners receive high‑quality, timely information that strengthens their commitment to the region and supports long‑term economic growth. Organised, collaborative and strategically minded, you play a vital part in shaping how insight drives decisions across the West Midlands.

 What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Leading the delivery of the Partnership Insight strand within WMGC’s Commercial Partnerships Strategy.
  • Developing and maintaining a three‑year delivery programme for partner insight.
  • Working with senior partnerships leads to map and understand partner insight needs.
  • Building strong relationships across the regional economic development system to coordinate the sharing of data, insight and policy developments.
  • Converting complex datasets and intelligence into clear, compelling narratives for partners.
  • Supporting partner-facing events, webinars and engagement activities with high‑quality insight.
  • Influencing partnership decision-making through evidence-based recommendations.
  • Supporting business cases and strategic work with insight and analysis.
  • Contributing to performance dashboards through WMGC’s CRM and producing monthly, quarterly and strategic insight packs.
  • Monitoring KPIs, identifying trends, flagging variances and recommending action where needed.

What You’ll Bring:

Essential:

  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Strong stakeholder and partnership management skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex data and turn it into clear, actionable insight.
  • Confident communicator with strong written and verbal skills.
  • Highly organised, with accurate CRM and reporting discipline.
  • Proactive, collaborative and comfortable working across public, private and academic sectors.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in research, analytics or insight roles.
  • Experience producing clear reports and briefings for decision‑makers.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

Desirable:

  • Strong analytical and storytelling‑with‑data skills.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Project or change management experience.
  • Understanding of the West Midlands policy or economic landscape.
  • Experience contributing insight to policy development.
  • Experience representing an organisation externally.
  • Knowledge of sector bodies, partnerships or cluster-style organisations.

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

  • 26 days holiday
  • Company pension scheme including life assurance
  • Hybrid working with 2 days in the office
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Simple Health employee membership scheme
